D-CAT Diesel Clean Advanced Technology

Together with the new Toyota Prius, Toyota's latest D-CAT (Diesel Clean Advanced Technology) confirms the manufacturer as the world leader in environmental development. Toyota D-CAT produces the lowest harmful emissions of any modern diesel, surpassing EURO IV standards:

- NOx and particle emissions are 50% and 90% below EURO IV respectively
- Diesel Particulate NOx Reduction System is a world first for Toyota
- Second-generation common rail system uses highest injection pressure ever

At the heart of the D-CAT system is DPNR (Diesel Particulate NOx Reduction System) and Toyota's own second-generation high-pressure common-rail diesel injection system. Fully integrated within these core technologies are various other control systems and devices which collectively combine to make it the most effective solution ever devised.

Performance in the real world

In Avensis, engine output figures for the Toyota D-CAT unit are 116 DIN hp at 3,600rpm with 280Nm of torque at only 2,200rpm. This provides a top speed of 195 km/h and 0-100km/h acceleration in 11.2 seconds, equalling the conventional D-4D version. The Toyota D-CAT system alone resulted in no fewer than 1,622 new patents being granted to Toyota. In addition, 30 major components of the D-4D were upgraded or introduced.
